I am “guilty as charged” on this one. I saw this Tweet today morning and thought of writing this post.
Writing this post reminds me of an incident from the 2000s. I was frustrated with something so I texted a dear friend of mine – “I am dumb”. He promptly replied “I am super dumb”. So I am sure many of those reading will relate to this post.
I believe most of us have a lot of potential and we keep learning/consuming a lot of content about “how to start..” but then we get in the loop of not doing/producing because we are (conveniently) too busy in watching/learning/consuming. More so the inertia of watching/learning/consuming is super hard to break from.
As a result we see those who are publishing content on social media and often the first thought we get is “does he even know what he is talking about?”. Well in most cases they really do not know. But then they have taken the more important step of “doing/starting/producing”. While most of us want to get the point where we know everything before starting. I don’t think we are searching for “what will work” but rather “what is the worst that can happen”. Then, if the worst expected outcome is not so worst and “manageable” as per our capabilities, we feel comfortable.
Again, I am not the master of the “doing” domain. So I truly understand how hard it is to start. In fact we believe it is so hard that those who start often seem “lucky” to us. We believe that it takes some kind of luck (aka magic) to get started. This forces us back into the loop of learning because now we are constantly trying to find the source of luck !!
Starting this blog has been my way of starting something. But here too I am finding it hard to share the link to this blog with anyone. The first set of self rebuttals has already arrived – “what if readers do not like or what if the cant relate to this content or what if I stop writing after only a few posts”. So I have set myself a challenge that I will write atleast 50 posts (so even if I stop, 50 is a good number to have) and then I will start sharing the links with others.
Let us see. This is the 7th post.
